Virtualization
Virtualization appears to be one of the current buzz words that investment banks are considering. In its simplest implementation, developers are using virtualization products (VMWare etc) to run multiple OS’s on their desktops to aid the development of custom software for the banks - Linux and Windows.
From a application perspective, DataSynapse is getting some traction in the virtualization arena with FabricServer. VMWare is also helping banks to migrate to virtual infrastructure.
The logical progression will be the marriage of grid and virtualization. I’m not aware of any bank going down this road at this time, but it’s probably going to happen soon.
