Digipede Network - Training
Here are my notes from the Live Meeting Digipede training with Nathan:
- Digipede Agents installed on all nodes on grid and will poll the Digipede server for work - similar to DataSynapse.
- Cycle scavenging is supported
- SQL Server/IIS are installed on the Digipede server.
- Sounds like a number of customers use Digipede to distributed Excel books onto a grid - the usual baby steps of moving applications onto a grid.
- Web services based communications
- Digipede Workbench UI/SDK framework/JobSubmit.exe can all be used to submit work to Digipede
- Digipede written in .NET 2.0
- Supports COM (and reg. free COM)
- JNBridge used for Java objects
- Digipede Agents uses Windows Security
- Digipede Pool = DataSynapse Discrimination
- Installing Digipede server on Vista not currently supported, but will be soon.
- SDK integrates into Visual Studio
- Digipede 2.0 will offer a Visual Studio debug add-in to debug agents - sounds much cleaner than DataSynapse
- Digipede Control (web management) isn’t as cool as it could be, but 2.0 should improve things. Overall its functional, and there’s nothing stopping a client from writing their own.
- Can define different scheduling algorithm per pool - Weighted Average, FIFO, Absolute Priority, Absolute Priority FIFO
Off topic: Bloomberg Makeover

is this simply a more sophisticated offering than SharePoint 07 (with Excel Services), Excel 2007 and Compute Cluster 2003?
