But what would you actually do with it (apart from drool)?
My guess would be to write and test Silverlight applications that try in vain to approach the speed, flexibility and openess of the new JavaScript engines such as V8 and TraceMonkey and SquirrelFish. Once that is complete and we have a vendor locked in, single platform application that investment banks will buy, we will then turn to porting to Windows 7 which is a sure bet considering the global Investment Banks rush to Vista.
Dollar for dollar you’d be better off with an Apple Mac Pro 8 Core 3.2GHz machine.
Unfortunately, the Apple MacPro 8-core does not support the Nvidia Tesla C870 GPU card, whereas the Cray can accommodate a cluster of these. Thus, this long-time dedicated Mac user will be switching to Cray later this year… ;~)
