2:30am – My Driver is Lost

Yesterday was one of those Friday you really want to forget. Moving code into production usually means the day is going to be entertaining. However yesterday was more entertaining than normal. Ignoring the 5 hours of chasing an issue that turned out to be miss-configuration, and the late evening entertainment of putting code into production with the normal madness that goes with such an activity, for me the real madness started when I left the office around 1:30am. Getting into the car I did my usual of immediately trying to go to sleep, assuming the driver would know where he was going – he had my home address, post code and the car had a satnav. The drive should have taken approximately 1hr, with me waking up 5mins before we arrived. Unfortunately this time around the driver decided to ignore my home address, and continue down a motorway adding around 40+miles to the trip. It could have been far worse if I hadn’t woken up on the hour and questioned why we were heading in the wrong direction. Net out, 4hrs sleep before returning to the madness, and I need to double check the car service company actually have a sensible route in mind before I go to sleep in the car.
