Single Dealer Platform (SDP) Renamed Sell-Side(Bank) Platform (SSP)
Single Dealer Platforms (SDP) have been all the rage for the last few years. By the end of 2010 I suspect any sell-side who is going to build one will have started using a range of technology, and probably initially pushing FX or IRS as the products of choice, but with the vision of putting all products onto the platform – commodities, equities, credit etc. Hence what we are really talking about it putting the sell-side (or bank) onto the web, rather than a collection of different applications with different user experiences, and different login’s that a client (buy-side) needs to use to access the sell-sides products.
One component that is rarely talked about within the context of a BP is what Microsoft is calling Advisory Services, or specifically the Institutional Client Platform (ICP). If you watch this video you’ll hear that ICP is aimed at providing sales with information on buying patterns, suggesting products, etc. “Single view of the client” is particularly key, and one that I don’t believe has been fully explored by any of the current SDP’s.
There are a number of other video’s which touch on ICP, specifically FAST – obviously if your going to build ICP you need a search engine. The FAST video mentions research data, but I suspect there is a wealth of data that needs to be searchable in ICP land.
