The Future of RIA: Rich Cloud Applications (RCA)

As I mentioned previously, Aleksey blog has a wealth of information on Rich Cloud Applications (RCA). RCA is the next logical step down the Rich Internet Application (RIA) road. Aleksey links to a number of presentations on his blog which discuss the Azure RCA architecture using Duplex Polling. In the Flex world, James has cloud views. What’s interesting is that neither James or Aleksey propose to move to full streaming RCA’s – ie leveraging on the five or so streaming servers available today (My-channels Nirvana, Lightsteamer, etc).

The Rich Cloud Application Framework and Sample 2.0 is worthwhile downloading – however I noticed the download was missing a few files from the PSO.Server.WebRole project :(

Here are a few other articles worth reading:

  • Cloud computing and emerging markets has an interesting posting on why Microsoft is doing well in cloud land.
  • If you prefer to use Google AppEngine, then Raj has a post on Running a Silverlight application in the Google App Engine platform.
  • Brian over on the Xenomorph blog has a good write-up on the Migrating Business to the Cloud event. It’s interesting to hear what EasyJet and RiskMetrics are doing in the cloud space.
