Open Data Center Alliance Thoughts
So another bank joins Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA). It’s clear the bank have a lot of gain from ODCA, and although I suspect few are actually using public clouds today, this will inevitably change post 2010 due to the expected cost savings over banks building and explaining their current data centers. Take the Single Bank Platforms (SBP) already deployed today; consider the hardware/support required to support 24hrs x 5.5 days at 99.999% uptime with a sensible latency SLA on price delivery, its clear the cloud should greatly help new contenders to the SBP market, coupled with lowering the transaction cost of existing SBP’s. Once a banks security and infrastructure teams have done their due diligence I imagine we’ll see a migration to the cloud for at least part of an SBP.
