HTML5 and Adobe Calls Time on Browser Plugins

Last week saw The Wall Street Journal public an article titled “HTML5: A Look Behind the Technology Changing the Web”. During the same week we finally get the announcement from Adobe that some of us thought would occur at some point in time: Adbobe is effectively throwing its full weight behind HTML5 and post Flex 4.6 SDK release, moving the Flex SDK to an open source foundation.

we (Adobe) believe HTML5 will be the best technology for enterprise application development

Although Andrew Shorten & Deepa Subramaniam’s posting suggests Flex is still a viable desktop software stack (“Flex has clear benefits for large-scale client projects typically associated with desktop application profiles”) its unclear post the Flex 4.6 SDK release if business will agree with this view.
