Google Chrome Frame – RIA Plugin Of Choice?
Historically a battle between Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight, is the new plugin of choice Google Chrome for the HTML5 world?

Heh, I like what you imply.
Even tho, I already tried this on the, not so distant, past with several projects where IE6 had to be supported. After hours explaining about Chrome Frame, and why IE6 should be dropped, I was always left as I already was, so had to resort to use Flash.
Also, tried this on both SAAS and small intranet sites, no luck so far.
Even if Chrome Frame is a great idea, it’s still easier to target latest Flash version, that it is to use HTML 5.
Not that I care too much if I cannot use latest web technology and I rarely do client side HTML or Javascript programming, but I’d love to see all those hacks and “polyfills” (as called in the article) removed.
From my experience, it is becoming a valid tool to use in a financial argument to scope browser support. The conversation usually goes something like this:
A) We need to support IE6 blah..
B) OK – legacy browser support adds 100% to our development and maintenance estimates. Are you happy with that?
A) ?*!$ no. Is there any alternatives?
B) We can provide modern browser support at standard cost (Chrome, Safari and FF latest, IE9). If you want legacy support you can have it for free with GCF or pay – your choice. Also, performance in legacy browsers is also improved. Did we mention is also has an msi installer now…
You still end up testing in webkit, FF and IE though..
