I got a CD from the CEO :-). Digipede is interesting since it has a good deployment model. You can simply deploy assembly you want to run distributedly right from your code. It made the deployment and update much easier. To enable the grid computing power in your code, it requires just a couple lines changed.
Another option for .NET Grid computing is this Open Source initiative out of the University of Melbourne. http://www.alchemi.net/ I’ve used it and while lacking the sophisticated management stuff in Datasynapse it is a good simple platform for grid-enabling your .NET apps. My thoughts are that eventually we’ll see an Open Source product outstrip the main vendors, but that seems like a while off yet.
[…] We get questions about how the Digipede Network compares to Vendor X or Open Source Project Y pretty often; a recent example is from Matt Davey’s Tales from a Trading Desk, where Matt asked: .NET Grid Computing. Not sure what it’s advantages are over and above DataSynapse. Would be interested to know if anyone has reviewed Digipede? […]
[…] This is exactly why we put so much energy and effort into our API, why we give away the Digipede Network Developer Edition, why I don’t leave the office without a few mini-CDs in my pocket to give to worthy developers. (Apparently, a developer to whom I handed a CD last month posted about it today!) […]
